Some of you may recall that Google talked about Google One VPN during the Pixel 7 launch event. This was one of the features Google announced, but it was not available at launch. The company said that it’s “coming soon”. Wel. It seems like the Google One VPN rollout has started.
Google One VPN is rolling out to the Pixel 7 series early
This actually comes a bit early, as it was supposed to start rolling out next month, based on reports. It was supposed to be a part of the December Pixel Feature Drop. In any case, it’s coming early. This is basically the same thing that you get when you buy the 2TB tier of the Google One cloud storage plan.
The Google One VPN can be very useful, needless to say, that goes for VPN services in general. It can mask your traffic and IP address, thus reduce online tracking, and give you some privacy and protection when using public Wi-Fi.
Do note that Google One VPN is not available with Workspace or selected supervised accounts. Also, Google promises it “will never use your VPN connection to track, collect, or sell your online activity”.
Now, 9to5Google gave us an early look at Google One VPN on a Pixel. If you check out the images in the gallery below, you’ll see what’s up. After you open the app, a new splash screen will welcome you, telling you that your “Pixel comes with VPN by Google One”, and explaining things further.
You can also enable a Quick Settings toggle
You will also notice the “Benefits” tab in the app, which will offer some extra info about the functionality of the app. If you tap on the ‘View details’ option within the ‘Benefits’ tab, you’ll see the ‘Use VPN’ toggle.
Once this becomes available on your Pixel 7 device, you’ll also be use a Quick Settings toggle for the service. If you’d like to enable the service, open the app, go to the ‘Benefits’ tab, and then VPN -> View details -> Enable VPN.
