If you have ever struggled to jot down important notes while keeping up with the conversation in Google Meet, there’s good news for you. Yesterday, Google announced a new AI-powered note-taking feature called “take notes for me” for Google Meet.

Google Meet’s AI note-taking feature is rolling out now

Earlier this month, there were reports about this feature. So, it’s not that we haven’t heard about Google Meet’s AI note-taking feature. If you’ve been part of the experimental Google Workspace Labs, you might have already seen “take notes for me” in action. If you haven’t, no worries. Now that the feature is here, you must wonder what is it and how it works.

Well, the name of the feature speaks for itself. The AI note-taking feature in Google Meet will help you take notes by using the capabilities of Gemini. The feature will help you concentrate on the Google Meet conversations without worrying about noting down important things.

Talking of working, the feature, when enabled, will automatically generate notes document in Google Docs. The document is saved in the meeting owner’s Google Drive. And, all the other participants of the meeting can access the same later on.

To enable Google Meet’s AI note-taking feature, first click on the pencil icon from the top right corner of the screen. Then, click on the “Start taking notes” button and AI will start doing its magic. Notably, the feature is only available on Google Meet on a computer or a laptop. And, is compatible with meetings involving the English language. But, with time, we expect the feature to be compatible with other languages too.

There’s another feature called “summary so far”

Apart from “take notes for me,” there’s another feature called “summary so far.” This feature is equally handy as it allows catching up at times when you join a meeting late. When the meeting ends, the organizer or anyone who turned on the feature will get an email with a link to the recap.

In terms of accessibility, the new AI note-taking and summary feature in Google Meet is handy for people who are deaf or find it hard to hear. The “take notes for me” in Google Meet is now rolling out starting today to Google Workspace Customers with Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, or AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons.

Google says the rollout should be complete by September 10, 2024. So, keep an eye on it. In short, “take notes for me” is one of the promising additions to Google Meet. It has the potential to make meetings more productive and accessible for everyone.
