In a page on its support website, Google has mentioned that it has determined that certain Pixel 7a phones may experience unexpected battery swelling. Thanks to the new program, some Pixel 7a device users may be eligible for a battery replacement repair for free or for another form of appeasement option from the company, depending on the country and warranty status.
It’s important to note that not every Pixel 7a unit is experiencing the unexpected battery swelling problem. The program covers issues like “visible swelling”, “phone cover building”, and the phone’s battery is draining significantly faster than usual, even with minimum use, or failing to charge.
Here’s how to check eligibility for the free Pixel 7a battery replacement offer
If you are facing any battery issues on your Pixel 7a, then you can simply check it online. To do it, go to Google’s support page and confirm your Gmail ID that you used to register your phone. Then, you’ll have to enter the IMEI code of your unit. Google may further ask you a handful of questions to verify the problem with your Pixel 7a.
It’s worth mentioning that Google states that following the online check, your phone will also undergo a physical inspection. Furthermore, do note that there are some conditions to get a free battery replacement. If your device has suffered liquid damage, exposure to sharp objects, or excessive force, it won’t be eligible for the extended repair offer.
The extended repair program supported countries and appeasement options
Google’s support page mentions that you can avail the extended repair program for your affordable Pixel by walking into Google repair centers. The supported countries for the offer include the USA, India, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Singapore.
As for the appeasement options, in countries without a mail-in option, you can claim $200 converted to your local currency. You can also get a $300 discount to purchase a new Pixel device. The aforementioned options are for the devices that are out of warranty. If your phone is still under warranty, you can avail of a hefty $456 payment.
