Google Workspace is all about collaboration, so many of its services are formatted to work with multiple people. One feature allows you to comment on documents for some of its services. Well, Google is revamping the comments function for Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
This isn’t the most significant update, but it can very much help you improve your workflow. When you’re working on documents with others, you’re able to see comments that your colleagues leave on them. This helps people share their thoughts on what’s in the document.
In order to view comments, you have to manually click on the View comments button on the right side of the screen. That’s not exactly labor-intensive, but Google has found a way of streamlining this process just a bit.
Google is revamping the comments in Docs, Sheets, and Slides
This feature is rolling out for the web version of these services. Currently, when you want to view the comments in your document, you will have to click on the View comments button. When you do, you will see a side panel appear from the right of the screen with a feed of the comments. When you click on the button again, the comments will disappear.
With the revamp, Google wants to show you more information without having to read the comments. The company is working on a minimize comments feature that will collapse the comments while keeping them visible. When you minimize the comments, you will see the avatar icons of the people who commented.
This saves space while allowing you to know who commented on the document. Also, you will be able to see the comments when you roll over them with your mouse. It’s already convenient to view your comments on Google Workspace, but this makes it even more convenient.
As for the rollout, Google is currently rolling this feature out. This rollout is a bit strange compared to other Google Workspace rollouts because it’s actually available for all Google accounts. It’s rolling out for all Google Workspace customers and all Google account holders. You should expect to see this update within the next couple of weeks.
