Google wants everyone to have a Pixel Watch 2. And to do that, they are offering a free Pixel Watch 2 with a Pixel 8 Pro pre-order, on October 4 once all the devices are announced. This is the latest in a slew of leaks coming from @Za_Raczke on X. Which clearly shows a portion of the Google Store page, highlighting this offer.
Now, Google has done this in the past. With the Pixel Fold, they did give pre-orderers a Pixel Watch. Which is a $349 value (and we expect pricing to stay the same this year). So there is precedent here, and this was very much expected.
Google is only doing this with the Pixel 8 Pro, however. Which makes sense, it’s the higher-end and more expensive phone. And obviously Google wants to sell more of them. Especially since the profit margin is likely higher there.
Google’s Pixel 8 Pro is shaping up to be smartphone of the year
Google always gets the attention of tech nerds with the new Pixel. And this year, they might get everyday consumers too. As the Pixel 8 series is getting a pretty big upgrade, all around. The Pixel 8 Pro is getting some big upgrades with the camera, including a new ultrawide lens which is now going to be 48-megapixel.
Both Pixel 8 models are also getting some big upgrades on the display. Both will have super bright peak brightness displays, at 2,000 nits for the Pixel 8 and 2,400 nits for the Pixel 8 Pro. That’s pretty crazy, since Samsung’s latest and greatest offer peak brightness of 1,750 nits. And the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do 2,000 nits. While the Pixel 8 Pro will go far beyond that. This is a pretty big deal, especially if you use your phone outdoors quite often.
Google is going to announce the Pixel 8 series on October 4, live at a Made by Google event in NYC. We’ll be there to bring you all of the latest from Google.
