[Update: A Google spokesperson gave a statement about the “component quality control issue.”

Rumors and speculation regarding this delay are false. A passive component in Pixel 9a didn’t meet our rigorous quality standards for device longevity and rather than ship it, we made the difficult decision to delay the on shelf and take corrective action on the small number of affected units.”]

Google dropped a bomb on everyone who wanted to buy a Pixel 9a when it delayed the device. That was pretty unfortunate, as the Pixel 9a is shaping up to be a pretty great handset. Well, Google finally broke the silence and told us when the Pixel 9a will launch.

Why did Google delay the Pixel 9a? Well, the company cited a “component quality issue that’s affecting a small number of Pixel 9a devices.” We don’t know how many devices were affected or what the issue was.

However, it’s great that the company took the time to address and fix the issue. The Pixel 9a is set to be Google’s iPhone 16e killer; the last thing that Google needs is a component issue.

Here are the official launch dates of the Pixel 9a

The Pixel 9a won’t land in every region at the same time. The phone will first launch in The U.S., Canada, and The UK on April 10th.

Next, it will hit Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, France, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Czechia, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, and Finland on April 14th.

Lastly, it will launch in Australia, India, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia on April 16th. What’s surprising is that Japan isn’t on this list. Pixel phones have been extremely popular in Japan, making up a pretty significant portion of the country’s smartphone market.

Google simply said, “Coming soon to Japan”. So, there’s no solid date as of yet. So, folks in Japan are going to need to be patient.

What to expect from this phone

The Pixel 9a will use the Tensor G4 and come with 8GB of RAM with up to 256GB of storage. So, you know that you’re going to get a pretty powerful experience. Not only that, but this phone will launch with Android 15 out of the box.

As for the display, you’ll be looking at a 6.3-inch Actua display with a 1080p+ resolution and a pretty high brightness. You’ll have a similar display experience to what you get from the Pixel 9 proper.

Moving on to the camera, this phone will have a 48MP camera on the back, which we know is going to produce some stunning results. When it comes out, we know that it will go toe-to-toe with the iPhone 16e.
