Christmas may have been three months ago, but Android users are getting a bunch of gifts. Along with improvements with Android 12L and the March feature drop, Google just gave us a ton of new features this March. This comes straight from the company via a blog post.
Android users are on the front line to receive a lot of new features that Google has been cooking up. This is something that Android users really need after the slew of issues that plagued Android 12. Since launch, people were uncovering several bugs and hiccups throughout the software.
These new Android features start with messaging
Google just announced some neat and exciting additions to Android that prove to be useful. For starters, Google Messages will employ the reactions from iMessage. People will be able to react to messages using an emoji on the actual message bubble. Next up, Messages will actually consolidate your messages based on whether they’re business-focused or recreational. They will be put into their own tabs to help you better focus on the most important messages.
One-time messages with password codes usually clutter up your messages. However, those will be automatically deleted after 24 hours.
Gboard will get some new features, as well. These include offline grammar correction and custom text-based stickers. Also, Emoji Kitchen now has more than 2,000 emoji combinations available to use.
You can speak to your phone in new ways
You will be able to use Google Assistant to pay for parking. Just park at a location, summon the Assistant and say “Pay for parking”. This will let you pay directly with your Google Pay app. This will work for Parkmobile street parking zones.
Next, you’ll be able to use Live Transcribe on your phone without a connection. This will transcribe a conversation in real-time so that everyone can understand what’s going on. Live Transcribe is really useful to people who are hard-of-hearing and deaf.
Other features include a new widget and better file sharing.
You can use Nearby Share to quickly send files to other individuals. Google added the ability to send a file (or even an entire folder) to multiple people at once.
In the Google Photos app, you’ll be able to add background blur to more photos. Previously, you could do this with pictures of people. Now, you can do this with plants, animals, and food.
There’s a new Digital Wellbeing widget that gives you insight into your screen-on time. This will help you better keep track of how much you’re using your phone.
In Google TV, there’s a new highlights feed. This will show you news, reviews, and more based on your interests. Tapping an item will take you right to the content.
