The company is now promising a better, smarter, and more helpful Google Assistant on the Nest speakers. Google Assistant for these speakers is getting an all-new Gemini AI-powered voice to provide more helpful answers to your queries.

Previous reports suggested that Gemini is completely going to replace Google Assistant, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Google Assistant is here to stay, thanks to the new powers it has received from Gemini AI’s LLM models. Instead of providing a full-fledged Gemini experience, Google is deploying some Gemini intelligence behind the scenes in Google Assistant.

It appears that while Gemini is the future for the Pixel devices, Google Assistant is going to stay alive on the Nest products.

Google Assistant on Nest speakers and smart displays will get a variety of voices in different styles. It will make interacting with your home products feel more conversational. The upgraded Google Assistant will now be able to better understand your queries to offer a more natural Gemini-like conversation experience.

The upgraded Google Assistant for Nest speakers strives to be “natural and helpful for everyone in your home”, says Google. Now, you don’t have to be specific when asking a query. For example, ask “Is Pluto a planet?” and then dig deeper with “Could they change their minds again?”.

For deeper conversations, Google Assistant will now tap into Gemini’s generative capabilities to deliver better answers on your Nest speakers. In addition, the new Assistant will use LLMs to offer improved media playback, setting timers, and other core experiences.

Google will be rolling out these Gemini AI-powered updates to Nest Aware subscribers first. These users will get the new Google Assistant or other Gemini upgrades in the Public Preview program later this year.
