According to a new report, Android 13 will improve QR code scanning. This information comes from Android Police. Now, it’s not exactly a secret that scanning a QR code can be a cumbersome process.
QR code scanning to become easier than ever in Android 13
Depending on your device, it’s even possible you have to dig through the camera app menus in order to find the option, if it’s even there. Well, Android 13 will do things a bit differently, if this report is to be believed.
As you can see in the screenshots below, the ‘Show QR Scanner’ option will become available in the settings, and it’s related to the lock screen. So it seems like we’ll be able to kick off the scanning from the lock screen.
The toggle itself says “allow access to the QR Scanner from the lock screen”, so it’s as clear as day. Needless to say, this would make the option a lot more convenient. Some of you may not care at all, but if you tend to scan a lot of QR codes, this option will be very beneficial.
Now, we still don’t know what will happen after you activate the feature. Will you be thrown directly into the camera app, or is Google planning to offer a separate QR scanning feature altogether? That’s not as important, though, as long as the feature is readily available.
A Quick Settings tile may also be available
Based on the report, a QR code Quick Settings tile will also be available to users. So you’ll even be able to make it readily available via a Quick Settings tile, without utilizing the lock screen icon, it’ll be up to you.
Options are always good, and it’s nice to see that Google is giving more attention to QR codes. Why? Well, they’ve become a lot more prominent these days. You can scan a lot of things with this feature, ranging from getting Wi-Fi network information, to navigating to a specific website, all the way to joining various group chats and whatnot.
This report, of course, does not confirm that the feature will come to Android 13, but it sure shows that Google is working on it. Chances are it will be included.
