Nancy Mace is the Republican Party’s favorite “moderate” who somehow manages to embody the worst of both worlds: too erratic for the centrists, too performatively edgy for the hardliners, and too much of a headache for literally everyone else.
In her latest bid for the title of “Most Unhinged Politician of the Week” — a highly competitive honor in today’s GOP — Mace unleashed a profanity-laden tirade against a constituent who dared to do the unthinkable: ask her to do her job. Yes, really. It was a simple question about town halls that somehow ended with Mace screaming, “F- you!” in the middle of a makeup store.
The confrontation, which Mace herself proudly filmed and shared online shows her going nuclear on a man who dared to ask if she’d be holding any more town halls this year. “I do them every year. You want to keep going? You want to keep harassing me?” Mace barked at the constituent.
When the man calmly repeated his question about future events, Mace claimed she had “already done one” and would “do plenty more,” without specifying any actual dates or details. Then, in a bizarre conversational detour, Mace suddenly announced: “And by the way, I voted for gay marriage twice.” The confused constituent asked the perfectly reasonable question: “What does that have to do with me?” To which Mace, demonstrating her commitment to logical discourse, responded: “It has everything to do with you.”
Mace then launched into a tirade about “you people on the left” being “absolutely f- crazy.” The exchange culminated with Mace’s eloquent farewell: “Goodbye. Get out of my face. F- you,” as the man walked away. Let’s be honest — the real reason Mace and many of her GOP colleagues are avoiding town halls isn’t about “harassment.” It’s about not wanting to face voters asking uncomfortable questions.
This isn’t the first time Nancy Mace has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. In fact, her political career could easily be mistaken for a blooper reel. Remember when she claimed to be a staunch advocate for LGBTQ rights, only to turn around and champion anti-trans policies with the zeal of someone auditioning for a Fox News guest spot? Just last year, she stood on stage at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition and gleefully mocked transgender people, even repeating a slur multiple times for applause. Classy. And let’s not forget her bizarre obsession with culture war theatrics. From proposing resolutions to ban transgender women from women’s bathrooms to accusing a foster care advocate of “assault” because he shook her hand too firmly, Mace has made it clear that she’s more interested in scoring cheap political points than addressing the real issues facing her district.
Here’s some unsolicited advice for Nancy Mace: log off, take a breath, and maybe—just maybe — try being a little less combative and a little more constructive. Because right now, the only thing you’re building is a reputation as the GOP’s resident drama queen. And trust me, that’s not a title anyone should want.
