Google has been constantly improving the user experience of the Gemini AI assistant since its initial debut as “Bard” in 2023. Apart from adding new functionalities to the Gemini Live assistant from time to time, Google is also working toward enhancing the multilingual capabilities of the chatbot. That’s why Gemini Live will soon get support for adding a second language, which will let you talk to it in multiple languages like Spanglish, Hinglish, Italian, French, and more.

Gemini Live is getting a feature allowing users to add another language for speech input

Google has been working on allowing the Gemini Live assistant to engage users across different languages like Spanglish, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, and more for a long time. We already heard about Gemini Live getting support for additional languages in beta back in December. However, the beta version of the Google app at the time only had an option to add a second language, but there wasn’t any option to select a language.

In the latest Google app beta version “16.9.39.sa.arm64” for Android, there’s now an option to add a second language for the Gemini Live assistant. In their teardown of the app, the folks over at Android Authority were able to choose from the list of available languages.

Google has also updated its support page, which now says the Gemini Live assistant supports more than 45 languages. It’s worth mentioning that the support text for adding a second language is only showing in the ‘iPhone & iPad’ section of the support page.

There’s only support for adding one secondary language at the moment

It’s worth mentioning that, as of now, users can only select one secondary language for Gemini. If you are using the beta version, you can head to the Gemini app > select a language option under ‘Second language (speech only).’ Once selected, you can ask your queries to the assistant in either of the two languages. You will be able to have conversations in more than a single language on the Gemini overlay, within the application, and when talking to Gemini Live.

As of now, it’s not clear when Google will roll out the support for a second Gemini language. However, since the feature has appeared in the beta version, we can expect it to be available very soon.
