The wait is over! Google introduced us to Gemini Live during Google I/O 2024. The company announced that it was rolling out to free users a few weeks ago. Well, Gemini Live is now available for free users.
This is one of the rare occasions when Android users get a feature before iPhone users. Sure, Gemini is a Google product, but we’ve seen YouTube features come to iPhones months before Android. So, if you’re an iPhone user, then you will be waiting a bit longer.
Gemini Live is here for free users
What is Gemini Live? It makes the chatbot seem more like an actual person. Firstly, you have your choice of 10 different voices, and you can choose the voice when using Gemini Live for the first time. If you want to change the voice, you can do so in the settings.
Once Gemini Live is running, just talk to it how you would regularly talk to Gemini. The responses you get will be more conversational to make it feel like you’re talking to an actual person. You’ll hear more “emotion” in the voice.
You’ll just have a conversation with the voice about whatever you want. You can use it to spitball ideas, talk about your day, get consolation, get advice, etc.; the list goes on. One of the notable things about Gemini Live is that you can interrupt it. This is something that makes it seem more human-like. When you interrupt it, you’ll be able to steer the conversation in a new direction.
Just like with other Gemini interactions, the conversations you have with Gemini Live are saved. You’ll be able to access those conversations in the Gemini app and on the website. As such, you’ll need to know that your conversations may be saved to Google’s servers just like other conversations. So, if this is something that you don’t like, then you’ll want to avoid this feature.
