Hybrid smartwatches have gained some traction in recent times, thanks in part to their convenience and sleek style. Now, Garmin has added a new hybrid smartwatch to its lineup called the Vivomove Trend, which finally comes with one of the most requested features – wireless charging with Qi compatibility. This marks a departure from Garmin’s previous proprietary charging systems, allowing users to charge the device on any Qi-certified charger for maximum convenience.
However, the watch does not come with a Qi charger, and users will need to purchase one separately if they don’t already own one. On the bright side, the watch does come with a wired USB-C charger, which is an improvement from past models. Additionally, Garmin has mentioned in its press release that the Trend may not work with upright Qi charging stands or those built into vehicles.
Features and pricing
The Vivomove Trend features a range of fresh additions, including Garmin Pay, sleep score tracking, a barometric altimeter and a hidden monochrome LCD display. The watch is compatible with both iOS and Android, but the quick-reply feature is only available for Android users. While not focused on intensive training, the watch offers various health-tracking options, including menstrual cycle tracking, sleep tracking, continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, and Body Battery, which is Garmin’s proprietary metric for tracking recovery from stress and activity.
However, the watch does not have a GPS built-in, meaning users will have to rely on their smartphones to track their route. Further, the watch offers a 5-day battery life, which is short when compared to other Garmin devices.
The Vivomove Trend starts at $269 and comes in a variety of colourways, including Cream Gold and French Gray, Peach Gold and Ivory, Slate and Black, and Silver and Mist Gray. Additionally, users can even design their colour combinations on Garmin’s website for a personal touch.
