Folks over at DXOMARK got their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, and reviewed its cameras. Some of you may be surprised when we tell you that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is now rated as the number 1 smartphone camera when it comes to foldables.

Why surprised? Well, the moment I saw that rating I immediately thought of the OnePlus Open / OPPO Find N3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, first and foremost. Those phones surpass the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the camera department, in our opinion.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 cameras rank high on DXOMARK, but only as far as foldables are concerned

The thing is, DXOMARK didn’t review the cameras on either of those devices. That’s the thing, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be number 1 at the moment. But… it remains to be seen what will happen if DXOMARK checks out its most fierce competitors in the foldable camera space.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is actually joined number 1 device on the list, along with the Google Pixel Fold. Both devices have 133 points and are followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (128 points) and Galaxy Z Flip 5 (127 points).

DXOMARK had plenty to say about these cameras. There are a bunch of pros listed, but also just as many cons. There’s definitely some room for improvement here, that’s for sure.

Quite a few ‘pros’ are listed by the company

The company said that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s cameras have “good exposure and fairly wide dynamic range”. Good detail and low noise in bright light were also mentioned, and details in long-range tele shots.

DXOMARK said that the phone has good depth estimation in bokeh shots and mostly accurate video exposure with a wide dynamic range. Nice colors in videos were mentioned too, and effective video stabilization as well.

DXOMARK didn’t hold back on the ‘cons’ either

In regards to cons, DXOMARk says that some luminance and chroma noise is noticeable indoors and in low light. Autofocus errors in low light are also a possibility, and occasional white balance casts and inaccurate color rendering.

Luminance noise was also mentioned for ultrawide shots, as were underexposed subjects in flash-off night shots. Videos tend to have exposure and color instabilities, and also unstable autofocus and refocusing at times. High noise in video is also a problem, and more.
