Days after the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the FCC certified the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The US version of the upcoming Samsung foldable received the certification with model numbers SM-F956U and SM-F956U1, which respectively denote the carrier-locked and unlocked variants. The listing revealed a few interesting details about the device, including the lack of Wi-Fi 7.
FCC reveals the Galaxy Fold 6 doesn’t have Wi-Fi 7
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra with Wi-Fi 7 support. The company omitted the feature from the other two Galaxy S24 models. It did so because the Exynos 2400 chipset powering the phones in some markets lacks the necessary hardware. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants have the hardware capability but Samsung has put software restrictions to block the feature.
It appears to be doing something similar with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The FCC certifications for the upcoming foldables reveal they support Wi-Fi 6E but lack Wi-Fi 7. The most interesting part here is that the foldables are powered by the same Snapdragon chipset as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It is unclear why Samsung isn’t offering the latest Wi-Fi standard on the new foldables.
Nonetheless, the FCC certification reveals that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 boasts UWB (Ultra Wideband) and WPT (Wireless Power Transfer), aka reverse wireless charging. It also has NFC and Bluetooth connectivity options, of course. A sketch present in one of the public documents shows its design, which we already know thanks to earlier leaks. No other notable information is revealed.
We are still awaiting more information on the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s battery and charging speed. There have been some unconfirmed rumors that Samsung will increase the battery capacity from 4,400mAh to 4,600mAh. However, most other sources have hinted at an unchanged battery. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, on the other hand, looks set for a battery boost from 3,700mAh to 4,000mAh. Both foldable may support 25W wired charging, unchanged from their predecessors.
An official launch is drawing closer
These regulatory certifications hint at a nearing launch of Samsung’s next-gen foldables. All rumors point to a July 10 unveiling of the duo. While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 may be star attractions at the launch event in Paris, France, the Korean firm has more products in the pipeline. The Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch Ultra are also creating a lot of buzz in the tech town. The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Watch 7 series are other devices expected at the event.
