With the Galaxy S23 series now out of the way, leakers have shifted focus to Samsung‘s next big products — the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable. Over the past few days, we have come across multiple leaks about these products. Word is that the Korean firm will fit the Flip model with a bigger external display, while the Fold series will once again miss out on a dedicated S Pen slot. Today, we have information about the storage options for the new foldables.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is readying the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of internal storage capacity. The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, will start at 128GB of base storage, with 256GB and 512GB options. If you recall, these are the same storage variants that last year’s Fold 4 and Flip 4 were shipped with. However, Samsung may upgrade to the newer UFS 4.0 storage solution in the new models.

Announced last year, UFS 4.0 brings substantial read and write speed improvements over UFS 3.1 which has been around for the past few years, including in the 2022 and 2021 Galaxy foldables. Samsung debuted the latest mobile storage chips with its newly-launched Galaxy S23 series. Well, the base Galaxy S23 model (128GB) still got UFS 3.1, though. That’s because the company doesn’t yet make UFS 4.0 storage chips of less than 256GB capacity.

Unless Samsung brings UFS 4.0 tech to the 128GB capacity, the base Galaxy Z Flip 5 will remain on UFS 3.1 as well. This won’t make much practical difference in day-to-day usage, as the previous-gen mobile storage solutions are no slouch. If anything, transferring large files may take slightly longer on a 128GB Flip 5 than its 256GB or 512GB variant. But the rest of the performance and functionality won’t be affected.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 should go official in August this year

Leaks about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 may have started coming more frequently, but the phones are still months away. Samsung probably won’t launch the new foldables before August of this year.

In the interim, you can look forward to more detailed leaks about them. Of course, the Korean firm also has several mid-range devices lined up for launch over the next few months. The Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G will likely open the floodgates as early as next month. We will keep you posted will all the latest information about Samsung’s upcoming smartphone portfolio.
