There were some rumors that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC (known as the SM8475), and a tipster just confirmed it. This information comes from Ice Universe, and it’s not the first time he’s mentioning it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 & Z Flip 4 “confirmed” to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+
The tipster did hint at it in the past, but now he seems to flat out confirm it. He actually used the word “confirm” for this info, and considering his track record, the information is probably accurate.
That means that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will use a brand new TSMC-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, dubbed Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. That processor is tipped to offer better thermals, and better performance overall.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 does heat up quite a bit, so if its sibling manages to keep it cooler, that will be a feat on its own. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ did not launch yet, though, as many of you know.
That processor is expected to launch in the near future
Qualcomm is expected to announce this SoC at some point in the future. We won’t have to wait for that long, it seems, as many upcoming smartphones are said to feature it. It seems like it will launch in the next couple of months.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 are expected to arrive at the same time. Those two devices will likely launch in August, though nothing has been confirmed just yet. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is also tipped to launch, and use this SoC, and that phone may even arrive before Samsung’s offerings.
Samsung is expected to improve the hinge on both of its upcoming foldables, in addition to improving the internals. The design likely won’t change all that much compared to their predecessors, though.
