Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches will reportedly feature bigger screens than previous-gen models. The company will also increase the display resolution. The watches will remain the same size, though. This means the Korean firm will cut the bezel around the display, giving the new wrist wearables a more premium look.
The Galaxy Watch 6 series could get bigger screens
According to noted tipster Ice Universe, the 44mm Galaxy Watch 6 model will feature a 1.47-inch screen this year. The screen has a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels. By comparison, the 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 features a 1.4-inch display with a 450 x 450 pixels resolution.
That means the display on the new watch will be 0.07 inches (almost 1.8mm) wider. And since Samsung isn’t making the watch bigger, it means slimmer bezels as well. The bezels on the new watch should be around 0.9mm thinner than before. That’s a sweet little design improvement from the Korean firm.
It gets even sweeter for the smaller model. Samsung is said to equip the 40mm Galaxy Watch 6 with a 1.31-inch display, having a resolution of 432 x 432 pixels. That’s 0.11-inch (almost 2.8mm) larger than the 1.2-inch display on the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5.
The resolution also sees a healthy jump from 396 x 306 pixels. A simple calculation reveals that the bezels on this watch will be around 1.4mm slimmer than last year’s model. With this change, the Galaxy Watch 6 should look a lot sleeker than its predecessor.
You may have noticed that the smaller Galaxy Watch 6 model is getting a bigger bezel cut. It’s unclear if Samsung is keeping thicker bezels on the 44mm model or if the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 had thicker bezels and this change will make bezels on the two models equally thick. Either way, the upcoming Samsung smartwatches will give you bigger screens and sharper visuals.
The new watches will come in two more sizes
40mm and 44mm won’t be the only two size options for the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Samsung is expected to offer the watches in two more sizes: 42mm and 46mm. These two should feature 1.31-inch and 1.47-inch screens, respectively, and debut as the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. They will keep marginally thicker bezels because the company will reportedly fit a physical bezel ring on them.
The iconic rotating bezel would make a return after a one-year gap. Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 5 series in three sizes last year, and none featured a bezel ring. The 40mm and 44mm models were accompanied by a 45mm Pro model with a bonkers battery (590mAh).
The company seemingly doesn’t plan to launch a Galaxy Watch 6 Pro this year and instead bring back the Classic lineup with a physical bezel. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors about the new Samsung smartwatches.
