Samsung‘s Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro are receiving a new software update. It’s a relatively large update with the download package for the latter weighing more than 500MB. The changelog only mentions some stability improvements and a redesigned Ball watch face, though. The latest November 2022 security patch is also in tow. The new firmware version for devices is R9**XXU1AVK7 (via).
According to Samsung’s release notes, this update brings stability and reliability optimizations to improve notifications and “device behavior”. The changes should hardly be noticeable to users, though. However, what everyone would see immediately after updating their Galaxy Watch 5 is the new watch face. While the Ball watch face itself isn’t new, you now get redesigned backgrounds.
This watch face already lets you set a multi-colored pattern as the background. Samsung has now updated it to let you cheer for your favorite team during this FIFA World Cup. Following the latest update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, the Ball watch face offers the national flag or flag colors of the 32 countries participating in the mega sporting event as the background.
As before, the Ball watch face still sits in the Graphical section of the Watch faces menu in Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app. However, those who haven’t updated their Galaxy smartwatch will not see the flag backgrounds. They will only see the existing background options.
The Galaxy Watch 5 series also gets the November security patch
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatches, i. e. all of its Wear OS-powered devices, are scheduled to receive monthly security updates. These updates address various issues on Google’s version of Wear OS as well as the Korean firm’s One UI Watch custom skin. The former series picked up the November security patch earlier this month. The newer models are also now following the suite.
This update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is already rolling out globally. If you haven’t received it yet, you will soon. Watch out for a notification from the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. You can also manually check for updates from the same app. Tap on Watch settings on the home screen and then on Watch software update. Now select the Download and install option. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. You can find the same menu in the Settings app on the watch as well.
