Summary: The April 2025 security update for the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup comes with a few surprises. The company hasn’t just included the classic monthly fixes for vulnerabilities and security holes. The patch also brings back the media playback widget, improves camera and charging, and optimizes overall system stability.
Attention, Samsung smartphone fans, a new update is rolling out. Earlier this month, the company detailed the fixes included in the latest security patch for Galaxy phones. However, the changelog focused primarily on vulnerability fixes, which is logical considering it was a security bulletin. Now, the April 2025 update is reaching the Galaxy S25 series with some additional bug fixes and even improvements to the overall user experience.
In recent months, security patches for eligible Galaxy phones have been limited to addressing security holes potentially exploitable by attackers. That said, the new update for the brand’s latest flagship phone series tells a different story.
Galaxy S25 April 2025 update brings back the media playback widget; improves camera and more
As reported by SamMobile, the April 2025 security update for the Galaxy S25 lineup addresses a bug—or rather, a shortcoming—in these premium phones. For some reason, the media playback widget in the notification bar has been missing from these devices since their launch. This widget appears once you start playing a video or track. It works correctly in One UI 7 for other Galaxy phones, so its absence was mysterious and raised complaints among the community.
Now, the widget is present both in the notification shade and in a pill-shaped icon in the Galaxy S25’s status bar. So, you can conveniently control media playback from there. You can also tap on the status bar’s live widget to bring up media controls.
The update also includes improvements and refinements to the user experience. The changelog mentions enhancements to the camera, charging, and overall system stability.
Samsung is currently rolling out the update in Korea. The new firmware has build number S938NKSU2AYD9. You probably won’t have to wait long to receive it on your device even if you’re in another region. Once it’s available for your phone, you’ll receive a notification. However, you can always check manually from Settings > Software update > Download and install.
