A well-known tipster has just revealed some info about Samsung’s next-gen flagship lineup. This information comes from Ice Universe, one of the best-known tipsters out there. In a cryptic tweet he revealed that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a frame made out of titanium. In a separate tweet, he confirmed the Galaxy S24+’s display size.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a titanium frame, it seems, just like Apple’s upcoming ‘Pro’ iPhones
The Galaxy S24+ will include a 6.65-inch display, compared to a 6.6-inch one on the current-gen model. The overall size of the phone will likely be very similar if not identical. There was no mention of bezels, but Samsung could further trim them, we’ll see.
That’s basically all the information that the tipster shared, for now. It’s interesting that Samsung is also going for a titanium frame, as the iPhone 15 Pro series is rumored to do the same.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a frame made out of stainless steel. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, on the other hand, has an aluminum frame. Well, both Samsung’s ‘Ultra’ and Apple’s ‘Pro’ series smartphones will make a jump to titanium.
Needless to say, that’s a good thing. Titanium is not only stronger than stainless steel, but it’s also lighter, considerably. It will be interesting to see how will that affect the weight of all three smartphones.
Let’s hope that the titanium frame will help those three phones lose some weight
The Galaxy S23 Ultra, and both iPhone 14 Pro models are actually quite hefty. Some people do prefer that, but many do not. It’s weird to use a 6.1-inch phone that weighs over 200 grams, in the case of the iPhone 14 Pro.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra weighs 234 grams, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs 240 grams. It would be nice to see that trimmed down a bit, though the titanium frame doesn’t guarantee anything, of course. We’ll have to wait and see.
Apple is expected to announce the new iPhones in September, even though they’re said to be delayed to October, based on the latest reports. The next-gen Galaxy S23 series is expected to drop in Q1 next year.
