Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra in January this year alongside its siblings the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus. There’s no doubt that it is one of the best Android phones of 2024. But, it seems an annoying display coating issue is ruining the experience of some Galaxy S24 Ultra users.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra users complain of display coating wearing down within a year

To catch you up, the Galaxy S24 Ultra includes an anti-reflective coating over the Corning Gorilla Armor-protected display for better readability. However, there seems to be some problem with the display coating of the smartphone. Initially, YouTuber Zaryab Khan pointed out this issue in his recent post on X.

In the image below, you can see that the display of the Galaxy S24 Ultra has smudges and marks all over the place making it look awfully bad. From the looks of it, the oleophobic coating on the display appears to have worn down due to repeated finger swipes. When asked by a user if some of those are scratches from keys, he replied, “Nah no keys. These are not scratches. This is flushed in with the coating.

Another X user (@piyushbaid95) also added that his Galaxy S24 Ultra’s display coating has worn out within a year. The user, in his post, adds that the Samsung store claimed it was due to his usage and suggested using a screen guard. Well, these are just a few examples, a few others are reportedly also noticing the same issue.

It’s certainly unusual, though

In the above scenarios, the oleophobic coating is to blame as it appears to have worn out within a year of launch. Although it’s understandable for the coating to wear out over time, it’s unusual to see that happening this quickly.

All that said, there’s no clarity on how this affects the anti-reflective feature of the display. However, it certainly takes away the beauty of a best-in-class display experience. Samsung hasn’t officially said anything on any channel about this matter. Therefore, it’s likely that many users aren’t experiencing this problem.
