With Unpacked out of the way, Samsung seems to have shifted its focus to the July security update. The company has released the new security patch to a bunch of devices, including the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S23 FE and a couple of A series phones are also on the list.

Galaxy S24 series gets Samsung’s July update with GPS fixes

The July update is currently available to Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra users in Samsung’s home country South Korea. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is rolling out with the firmware build number S92*NKSU3AXFG and an OTA (over the air) file size of over 530MB (varies according to the device model). The company should soon expand the rollout to other markets.

The official changelog supplied by Samsung says this update contains GPS-related stability improvements along with the July security patches. The GPS fixes may or may not arrive in other markets but the security patches will surely do. This month’s SMR addresses over 60 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family. These include four critical Android OS fixes from Google and two critical Galaxy fixes from Samsung.

These security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy S23 FE. The Fan Edition phone is picking up the update in Europe with the build number S711BXXS4CXF9 and in India with S711BXXS4CXF8. Unlike the new flagships, it isn’t receiving anything else. Samsung shouldn’t take long to bring the update to the US and other remaining markets. The phone might pick up a sizeable feature update in August.

The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A04e, the two A series models following the Galaxy A55 to Samsung’s July security patch, are also only receiving security fixes. The former is getting the update in Europe with the build number A536BXXSBEXF3, while the latter is picking it up in India with firmware version A042FXXS8EXF2. We should soon see Samsung push the July SMR to other eligible Galaxy devices, including tablets.

A major update awaits for the new Samsung flagships next  month

The Galaxy S24’s July update may not be exciting but the next update might be huge. Samsung is expected to push new AI features and other improvements from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 to the latest flagships in August. The update should also bring major camera fixes, at least to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. We will let you know when the rollout begins. You can also manually check for updates from Settings.
