After putting the Galaxy S23 Ultra through rigorous durability tests a couple of weeks back, YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything is back with his teardown video of the latest Samsung flagship. As usual, the YouTuber takes apart the device in pieces and lets us see it inside out. We can see all the internals that make up the phone. For the most part, it’s standard stuff with nothing new to talk about. But the Korean firm has made one key change that DIY (do it yourself) enthusiasts like Zack have been asking for a long time. Let’s check it out up close.
Galaxy S23 Ultra teardown
Zack begins his Galaxy S23 Ultra teardown journey by removing the back glass. Unsurprisingly, the company has once again used “copious” amounts of glue or adhesive to attach the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 rear panel to the rest of the phone. This makes the handset more watertight. The YouTuber uses a heat gun to loosen the adhesive and carefully pries through it using a sharp knife while pulling the rear panel with a suction cap. The back glass eventually comes out in one piece, with no internals attached to it. If you need to replace your Galaxy S23 Ultra’s rear panel, it shouldn’t be costly.
Once we are inside the phone, we can see the copper coil for wireless charging on top of the battery. Removing it, and a few paper-thin ribbon cables, Samsung’s little secret reveals itself. For a change, the battery is no longer glued in place. Instead, the Korean firm has included a pull tap that makes removing the battery a whole lot easier. Simply pull out the tap and the power unit will come out with it. Earlier, Samsung forced repair technicians to dissolve the glue and pry out the battery, which isn’t quite safe. If you accidentally prick the battery, it may catch fire.
The rest of the stuff doesn’t have any surprises. But for those wondering, Zack’s teardown of the Galaxy S23 Ultra reveals that nothing will be damaged if you accidentally put the SIM ejector tool or any other sharp object in the microphone hole. Since the two holes sit pretty close at the bottom, an accident can happen. But Samsung has designed the device such that everything remains safe. It will not even damage the waterproofing mesh. This should help with peace of mind for many. You can check out the full teardown video below.
