The Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung’s highest-rated Galaxy S series flagship yet. An analysis by the product recommendation site PerfectRec shows that the phone received five-star reviews from 86% of its users. The site collected data from over 388,000 user reviews on Google in May.
Samsung has been launching flagship phones under the Galaxy S series since 2010. Those devices received consistently average reviews for the first few years. But, the release of the Galaxy S6 series in 2016 saw the percentage of five-star reviews go up. The Galaxy S7 series in 2017 did live up to expectations, but Samsung failed to follow up with as good phones in subsequent years, at least according to the PerfectRec report.
The Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10 5G, and the base Galaxy S21 did put up respectable numbers. However, Samsung’s flagships dipped to an all-time low last year. The base Galaxy S22 only received 61% of five-star reviews, the lowest since the Galaxy S4 Mini (58%) in 2013. The Galaxy S22’s share of five-star reviews (67%) is also the second-lowest since the Galaxy S5 Mini (65%) in 2014.
However, Samsung has reversed the trend this year. The Galaxy S23 series received much better reviews than its predecessor. All three models topped the recent Galaxy S series flagships. The five-star review share of the base Galaxy S23 came in at 75%, while that of the Galaxy S23+ is 78% and Galaxy S23 Ultra is 86%. The Ultra is the only phone in the lineup to ever breach the 80% mark. The previous high was 79% achieved by the Galaxy S10 5G in 2019 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015.
The Galaxy S23 series is trending better than the iPhone 14
Samsung’s decision to go all in with a Snapdragon processor in the Galaxy S23 series may have been pivotal to such positive user reviews for the phones. The devices were the top three best-selling Android phones in the first three months of the year. While the latest iPhones topped the chart, many iPhone 14 buyers appear to be disappointed with what they got. The average user rating is the lowest since the iPhone 11 series in 2019.
“Our research suggests the iPhone 14 didn’t meet expectations for a lot of consumers,” said PerfectRec founder and CEO Joe Golden. “If you’re looking to replace an older iPhone, maybe this is the year to give the Galaxy S23 a closer look”. Here’s a quick comparison of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max for you.
