Corning has just confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S23 series of smartphones will be the first to use the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. That display protection was announced by Corning at the very end of November.
The Galaxy S23 phones will be first to utilize Gorilla Glass Victus 2
As most of you know, Samsung will announce its new offerings on February 1. The company will launch the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra during the event. All three phones will utilize the Gorilla Glass Victus 2, it seems.
The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 delivers improved drop performance on rough surfaces. Corning listed concrete as an example. It also preserves the scratch resistance of the Gorilla Glass Victus, its predecessor.
David Velasquez, Corning’s Vice President and General Manager said: “We are proud to continue our long partnership with Samsung and have our latest innovations play a vital role in Samsung’s newest Galaxy smartphones”.
This product also puts focus on the environment
The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 also puts focus on the environment. It has achieved an Environmental Claim Validation for containing an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled content. That has been validated by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
In its press release, Corning also mentioned that Gorilla Glass has been designed into more than 8 billion devices, by more than 45 major brands. Needless to say, it has been around for a long time. Almost every major OEM uses it for its phones, different versions of Corning’s Gorilla Glass protection.
The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is obviously the latest iteration Corning announced. We’ll see it in quite a few smartphones this year, mostly flagship-grade devices, though, of course. Samsung will be the one who will utilize it first, though, and we’re only a couple of days away from the Galaxy S22 launch event.
