Samsung pushed a massive update to the Galaxy S23 series in August. The OTA (over the air) package weighed well over a gigabyte (GB) and brought new camera features and improvements, including an optimized 2x zoom option. The company has now published the full changelog for the update, detailing every new feature that the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra got this month.

The official post on Samsung’s community forum for South Korea confirms the addition of a dedicated 2x zoom option to the stock camera app on Galaxy S23 phones. The company has optimized the 2x zoom level, allowing the devices to capture better photos and videos than before. The feature requires a separate Camera Assistant update (version 1.1.03.1) via the Galaxy Store.

While the 2x zoom level has been specifically optimized for better output, the August update improves the output quality of the Galaxy S23 camera at other digital zoom levels as well. This is thanks to the new AI (artificial intelligence) technology that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables last month.

Additionally, Samsung has optimized high-pixel modes (50MP and 200MP) for better blur, shadow noise, and lighting in photos. Motion photos also get improved blur and size optimizations. Portrait Mode videos, meanwhile, now support higher frame rates (increased from 24fps to 30fps) for some effects, including Big Circle, Color Point, and Glitch.

Like most other camera apps, Samsung’s stock camera app for the Galaxy S23 offers natural face shape correction for selfies. The company has adjusted the intensity of this effect with the August update. Last but not least, Samsung has optimized the camera performance of the Galaxy S23 phones across various shooting modes to let you capture better photos and videos than ever.

Samsung has fixed a camera blur issue on the Galaxy S23

The August update also fixed a camera blur issue on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. The company’s changelog states that it has reduced “peripheral image blur” in close-up shots by adjusting the focus position. These two models have had focusing issues since the beginning.

If you’re using a Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or Galaxy S23 Ultra, all of these camera goodies will be available to you with the August update. Samsung released the update last week and has been gradually expanding its availability. It reached the US yesterday. Users in other parts of the world can also expect to receive it soon. You can manually check for new updates from the Settings app.
