Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ flagships may sport the same Contour Cut rear camera design as the Galaxy S21 series but they will definitely not keep the same camera sensors, at least not all of them. We have been long hearing that the two devices will feature the company’s new ISOCLEE GN5 50-megapixel sensor for the primary rear camera. Noted leaker Ice Universe has more or less confirmed that today.
According to the new report, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ will feature a 50-megapixel primary camera with a 1/1.57-inch footprint. The sensor has 1.0μm-sized pixels and an F/1.8 aperture. Those specs match perfectly to the ISOCELL GN5 that Samsung announced alongside its bonkers 200-megapixel camera in September.
The ISOCELL GN5 uses the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus technology for quick, all-directional autofocusing. The sensor features Samsung’s proprietary Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) technology that enables it to capture and hold more light. The 50-megapixel camera can shoot 12.5-megapixel images in low-light conditions using 2×2 pixel binning. It can also record 8K videos at 30fps, 4K videos at 120fps, and FHD videos at 240fps.
Apart from the primary camera, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will reportedly use a 10-megapixel sensor for the 3X telephoto lens. It is a 1/3.94-inch piece of silicon with 1.0μm-sized pixels and an F/12.4 aperture. The ultrawide lens may be unchanged from the Galaxy S21 series though, at least based on the leaked specs. The new report mentions a 12-megapixel sensor with a 1/2.55-inch footprint 1.4μm-sized pixels, and an F/2.2 aperture.
The front camera could also be unchanged. We are expecting a 10-megapixel camera on both Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+. The sensor has a footprint of 1/3.24-inch and features 1.22μm-sized pixels. It has an F/2.2 aperture.
Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ camera specs leaked much ahead of launch
The Galaxy S22 series has been the talk of the town lately. There has been an uptick in the volume of leaks as well recently. But we aren’t surprised a bit. Samsung’s flagship offerings tend to garner a lot of attention all over the world. After all, the Korean firm is the biggest smartphone vendor globally and makes some of the best Android devices.
However, despite the growing volume of leaks, the Galaxy S22 series is nowhere near launch yet. Samsung is said to delay the launch of its next-gen flagships to February 2022, a month later than the Galaxy S21 series this year. The company reportedly wants to introduce the long-rumored Galaxy S21 FE in January. The ongoing chip shortage problem may have also caused production issues, thus forcing Samsung to delay the Galaxy S22 launch.
We expect to hear more about the Galaxy S22 series in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, you can check out our Galaxy S22 Preview to find out everything we know about the device so far.
