Samsung‘s April security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Note 20 series, and the Galaxy A53 5G in the US. These devices join the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 at the party. The latest security patch is also available for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy A22 5G, but the update for these devices has yet to reach stateside.
As of this writing, the April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is only available for the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US. The updated firmware build number for the phones is S90*U1UES2CWCC. As you can see in the official changelog here, it doesn’t bring anything apart from the latest security fixes. Samsung should soon expand the rollout to cover carrier-locked units too.
Outside the US, the April security update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22 trio in Latin America. Users in the region are getting the latest security patch with the firmware version S90*EXXU4CWCE. It should just be a matter of time now before the April SMR reaches the 2022 Samsung flagships in more global markets. Users can manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
This month’s security update for the Galaxy Note 20 series, meanwhile, is currently exclusive to the US. Once again, Samsung has begun the rollout with the factory-unlocked units. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are receiving this update with the firmware build number N98*U1UES4HWC9. As you might have expected, it only brings the latest security enhancements. The rollout for the carrier-locked variants should begin in the coming days.
Galaxy A53 5G is also getting the April update in the US
The Galaxy A53 5G is another Samsung smartphone that recently started receiving the April update in the US. Availability is currently limited to unlocked units in Puerto Rico. It comes bundled with One UI 5.1 and brings the firmware build number A536U1UEU4CWC4 (via). Users in the mainland US received the One UI 5.1 update last month. They should get a separate update with the April SMR in the coming weeks.
As said earlier, Samsung has already pushed the April security update to several other Galaxy smartphones. It will seed the new SMR to more eligible models in the coming days, including the likes of the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3. We will keep you posted.
