It appears the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will support 45W fast wired charging, after all, at least the two higher-end models. Danish certification agency DEMKO has certified the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra with 45W charging speed (10V, 4.5A). The vanilla Galaxy S22 still languishes behind with a maximum charging speed of 25W (9V, 2.77A).

However, these numbers contradict with another certification from China’s 3C. The 3C certification agency suggested all three Galaxy S22 models will not top 25W charging speeds. Perhaps Samsung will offer its upcoming flagships with different charging speeds in different regions. Or maybe we’re missing out on something. We will find that out soon.

But either way, don’t expect Samsung to include a charging brick in the retail box. Those days are long gone. As far as the battery packs are concerned, reports suggest the vanilla Galaxy S22 will get a 3,700 mAh unit while the Galaxy S22+ will ship with a 4,500 mAh battery. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will pack a 5,000 mAh unit.

A plethora of leaks over the past few months have also revealed all other key specs of the upcoming Samsung flagships. The devices will bring plenty of upgrades to the table, including newer SoCs, improved cameras, improved design, an all-glass body, higher peak brightness, and more. The new Galaxy flagships will break cover on February 9.

Samsung is being too cautious with the fast charging technology

Samsung, which is a long-time leader in the smartphone industry and one of the most innovative tech companies globally, has been rather cautious with the charging technology for mobile devices. At a time when its rivals are offering charging speeds of up to 120W, the company has hardly topped the 25W mark. A handful of Galaxy devices support 45W charging but that’s about it. Perhaps the Galaxy Note 7 disaster is still somewhere in Samsung’s mind.

However, that doesn’t justify the decision of offering just 25W of charging speed in a flagship smartphone. That is too slow by the current standard. Even 45W could be termed slow for wired charging. Some companies have reached higher speeds with wireless technologies as well. But Samsung surely knows what it’s doing. Hopefully, the company has other tricks up its sleeves as far as the Galaxy S22 series is concerned.
