Samsung‘s upgrading more Galaxy users to the latest security patch. The company has released the June security update for the international versions of the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy A52s, and Galaxy A42 5G. The two Fan Edition (FE) phones have already received this update in the US.
Galaxy S21 FE and S20 FE’s June security update goes global
Earlier this month, Samsung rolled out the June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the US versions of the Galaxy S21 FE. It first updated the carrier-locked units and later expanded to unlocked units. The company has now released the update globally. The phone is getting the latest security patch in Europe, Asia, and possibly other regions.
In Europe, the June update for the Galaxy S21 FE comes with the firmware build number G990BXXS8GXF1, SamMobile reports. It’s G9900ZHS8GXF1 for users in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and G990EXXS9FXF1 for users in other parts of Asia. Regardless of the build version, the update seemingly only brings this month’s security fixes from Samsung and Google.
The latest SMR for Galaxy devices contains 37 high-severity vulnerability patches from Google. These vulnerabilities exist in core Android OS services and partner components. On top of these, Samsung patched 22 security issues in its Android products, including one critical flaw. These issues do not affect Android devices from other brands.
These 59 security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy S20 FE in several international markets. The update is available for the 4G model in Europe, Asia, and Australia with the build number G780GXXSAEXF1. It shouldn’t be long before the 5G model joins the party. Samsung has already started updating it in the US where the 4G model wasn’t released.
Galaxy A52s and A42 5G are also getting this update
The Galaxy A52s is a refined version of the Galaxy A52. Samsung sold it in most parts of the world outside North America. It is now updating the device to the June security patch. The update is widely available in Europe with firmware version A528BXXS8GXEA. A global rollout should be right on the horizon, though Samsung may skip the release in some markets.
The last device on the list today is the Galaxy A42 5G, a soon-to-be-obsolete Samsung phone that never got a successor. Launched in September 2020, this phone received three major Android OS updates (up to Android 13) and is now in its fourth year of security updates. The June SMR is available in Europe with the build number A426BXXS7DXF1. You can check for updates from the Settings app.
