Samsung seems all set to launch its much-awaited Galaxy Ring next week. The upcoming smart ring is expected to redefine wearable health and fitness technology. Rumors suggest the tiny ring can replace your bulky smartwatches, allowing for less intrusive continuous health monitoring. A new report provides some insights into the Galaxy Ring’s health features.

Galaxy Ring will offer a wide range of health features

In their latest APK teardown, the folks at AndroidAuthority looked into the Samsung Health app to potentially discover new features. They did find some interesting information. They could activate several Galaxy Ring-centric health features hidden in the app. Samsung has developed the features and is waiting for the Galaxy Ring’s launch before making them public.

For starters, the new smart ring seems capable of heart rate monitoring, stress tracking, skin temperature measurement for predicting women’s menstrual periods, and snore detection. Of course, all of these features are already available on a Galaxy Watch. And like the watch, the ring connects with the Samsung Health app on your phone to show live results and maintain a record of all measurements.

The publication shared some screenshots revealing the UI and animations for these features. As you can see in the images below, the app displays a circular animation when measuring stress and a love-shaped animation for heart rate monitoring through the Galaxy Ring. The screenshots also reveal that Samsung Health will maintain a graph of your daily skin temperature to predict menstrual periods.

If you are using the ring alongside a watch, you must select a device for measuring the skin temperature. This is likely to ensure consistent reading from a fixed part of the body. For snore detection, your smartphone plays an important part, which is also the case with Samsung watches. The phone must be nearby and charging. Samsung Health records audio through your phone to detect snoring.

The ring offers longer battery life and is more comfortable

The Galaxy Ring seems as capable as the Galaxy Watch in health monitoring. However, it offers a longer battery life, with rumors of a runtime of up to nine days on a single charge. The bigger sizes may boast bigger batteries. Moreover, the ring is more comfortable to wear to sleep. It probably lacks GPS though, so it cannot track your outdoor runs. A ring and a watch may be the perfect combo for continuous and comprehensive health monitoring at home. Samsung’s next unpacked is scheduled for July 10.
