Samsung last month updated the Galaxy Note 10 Lite to Android 13. The affordable S Pen-wielding Galaxy flagship picked up the November security patch with the big Android update. It is now getting the latest December SMR (Security Maintenance Release).
The December security patch for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is currently rolling out in Europe. More precisely, Samsung has begun the rollout in France. Users are getting the update with firmware version N770FXXS8HVL1. The Korean behemoth should expand the rollout to other global markets in the coming weeks. Note that the phone wasn’t officially launched in the US.
This update doesn’t bring any new features or user-facing changes to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. The device picked up Android 13 less than a month ago, so that’s understandable. But there are plenty of vulnerability fixes here. Samsung’s latest security release patches as many as 80 vulnerabilities present in its Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
The vast majority of those (67, to be precise) are vulnerabilities in Android OS and other partner components, including components from Qualcomm and MediaTek. These flaws affect the entire Android ecosystem and aren’t limited to Samsung products. Of course, devices using a compromised component are only vulnerable to a certain security flaw. But Google’s latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin) mentions at least two critical Android OS flaws that could lead to remote code execution.
The December SMR for Galaxy devices also contains three more critical and 60 high-severity ASB patches. On top of those, Samsung patched 13 Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities as well. These issues don’t affect Android products from other brands. The Koren firm mentions a couple of high-severity flaws in the Exynos baseband as well as issues with several other system apps and components, including the Telecom application, Contacts, Phone, RCS call, and Samsung Settings.
The Galaxy Note 10 Lite gets the December security update
If you’re using the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, these vulnerability fixes should be available to you soon. It could be the penultimate monthly security release for the phone. Launched in January 2020, the device will complete three years next month. Samsung will likely demote it to quarterly security updates after that. The updates will come for at least one more year, though. Just that you’ll get fewer releases than you currently do. However, don’t expect to receive the Android 14 update next year. The next Android version will not come to your phone. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite debuted running Android 10 and will end its life on Android 13.
