Back in April, it was confirmed that Samsung plans to make exclusive processors for its Galaxy smartphones. Well, a new rumor just surfaced, claiming that Galaxy-exclusive Samsung SoC won’t be coming until 2025.
Galaxy-exclusive Samsung SoC may not arrive until 2025
This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster. He says that Samsung plans to utilize a Galaxy-exclusive chip in the Galaxy S25 series scheduled to arrive in 2025. He is obviously referring to a high-end chip.
Now, back in April, the confirmation came from TM Roh, the President of Samsung’s mobile business. He revealed those plans during a town hall meeting back in March, but the report appeared in April.
Considering that this chip is not coming until 2025, according to this rumor, it obviously isn’t close to being finished. Samsung is developing it, but it will take its time to arrive to consumers.
Why is Samsung doing this? Well, Samsung’s Exynos processors weren’t exactly the best offerings out there. Samsung has been using both Snapdragon and Exynos chips inside its flagships for years now.
The use of Exynos 2200 is quite limited
It used Exynos processors in quite a few markets over time, but for its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S22 series, it limited the use of those chips to Europe. In other markets, the Galaxy S22 units use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
Why? Well, as already mentioned, Samsung’s Exynos chips were trying to compete with their Snapdragon counterparts, but are constantly coming short. That, of course, manages to annoy users who get Exynos variants of Samsung’s phones, as they don’t get the same experience.
The same is the case with the Galaxy S22 series, as Exynos units did have quite a few performance problems. Samsung addressed them via updates, but it took the company some time to polish things out… to a degree.
So, making a chip exclusive to its Galaxy phones, a chip to rival Apple’s and Google’s offerings, actually makes sense. Exynos chips are apparently not it, at least based on what we’ve seen thus far. The fact that Samsung is planning this says a lot as well.
