If you’re a Samsung Galaxy phone user, you might be eagerly awaiting the arrival of One UI 7. Well, the latest leaks related to the update suggest that you’ll probably need to be very patient, especially if you’re using a mid-range model. In the meantime, the company continues to roll out the latest monthly patch to all its eligible devices. Now the Galaxy A55 and S21 FE are getting the February 2025 security update.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A55 in March 2024 as the new king in its mid-range lineup. The Galaxy A5x series took that spot after the discontinuation of the older Galaxy A7x lineup. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21 FE is a much older model—launched in January 2022—intended to be the most affordable variant in the S24 series.

Samsung rolling out the February 2025 security update to the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy S21 FE

As reported by SamMobile, the phone is already receiving the February 2025 update. The South Korean giant has already updated all its flagship devices from last year, so now it’s the turn of more affordable smartphones.

According to the report, the Galaxy A55 is receiving the February 2025 security update under the build number A556BXXS6AYB2. The OTA is first reaching phones across Europe. However, it’s quite likely that the rollout will be extended to more countries and regions in the coming days. Meanwhile, SammyGuru reports that the Galaxy S21 FE is also receiving the same treatment. The update is first rolling out to devices in Asia under the build number G990EXXSCFYB3.

As with all previous updates, you’ll receive a notification once it’s available to you. However, you can always try a manual check to speed things up by going to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.

An update totally focused on fixing vulnerabilities

Galaxy phone users eager for new features won’t be pleased with this update. As in the past few months, Samsung has limited itself to fixing vulnerabilities. In this case, the patch brings fixes for up to 40 security holes that could put your device and personal data at risk. Google contributed 36 of these fixes to the Android core. On the other hand, Samsung integrated four fixes for vulnerabilities present in its software and hardware.

Samsung promised that the Galaxy A55 will receive four Android OS updates. The device came out running Android 14-based One UI 6.1 out of the box. Theoretically, it should receive updates up to Android 18. However, Samsung launched phones with longer support times last year, some even more affordable than the Galaxy A55. For example, the low-end Galaxy A16 boasts up to 6 years of Android OS updates. So, it wouldn’t be strange if the firm extended the official software support time of the A55. Anyway, there is no official confirmation for this yet.
