Alongside the Galaxy S23 flagships, Samsung is also working on a few mid-range devices. The Galaxy A54 5G is one of them. Rumors suggest this handset is going to be the company’s highest-specced mid-range model this year, sitting directly below the base Galaxy S23 until a new FE model arrives (Galaxy S22 FE).
We have seen the upcoming Galaxy A phone in a few leaks over the past couple of months or so. Ahead of the rumored launch in March, the Galaxy A54 5G has now passed through the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification process.
FCC certification reveals some specs of the Galaxy A54 5G
The FCC has certified the Galaxy A54 5G with the model number SM-A546E. It is the international version of the phone. The US version bears the model number SM-A546U. The listing confirms dual-SIM support on the device. It also mentions the battery model EB-BA546BY, which has a rated capacity of 4,905mAh (via). Samsung will probably say a typical battery capacity of 5,000mAh, unchanged from the Galaxy A53 5G last year. We can’t rule out it being advertised as 5,100mAh, though.
Documents uploaded on the FCC website also confirm 25W fast wired charging on the Galaxy A54 5G. Once again, Samsung is keeping things unchanged. 25W may seem paltry in front of some competing Chinese phones that go above 100W. But the world’s largest smartphone vendor hasn’t been pushing things much in terms of charging speed. Even its flagships charge at 25W, including the upcoming Galaxy S23 base model. The Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra boast 45W wired charging, the highest Samsung has gone so far.
The Galaxy A54 5G’s FCC listing also mentions support for Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth LE, which is standard. While that’s all the regulatory body has revealed today about the new Samsung mid-ranger, earlier leaks have confirmed an Exynos 1380 processor and 6GB of RAM. We may also get an 8GB RAM variant. A 50MP primary camera may sit on the back, along with an ultrawide lens and a macro camera. There will be no depth sensor this year on any Samsung smartphone.
Android Headlines exclusively revealed the Galaxy A54 5G’s design last month. The phone is a little shorter and wider than the Galaxy A53 5G. This change in shape has resulted in a marginally smaller screen (6.4-inch Vs. 6.5-inch). The screen is also wider with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, similar to the Galaxy S series flagships. We should hear more about this phone closer to its launch. Perhaps leaks may come more frequently once the Galaxy S23 series is out of the way. The new Samsung flagships debut on February 1.
