Samsung‘s Galaxy A51 is getting a major new update in the US. The company is pushing One UI 5.1.1 to the premium mid-range handset. The device isn’t eligible for Android 14 or One UI 6.0, so this should be the last major feature update for it.
Galaxy A51 gets One UI 5.1.1 with a few new features
The One UI 5.1.1 update for the Galaxy A51 is rolling out with the firmware build number A515USQUBFWI2 in the US. The rollout currently appears to be limited to carrier-locked units but it shouldn’t be long before Samsung pushes the new One UI version to unlocked units.
Debuting with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in August, One UI 5.1.1 brings several new features and improvements. However, since the Galaxy A51 is a mid-range model, it isn’t receiving all of the goodies. The changelog supplied by Verizon states that the Call Background feature is seeing some changes.
More precisely, Samsung has moved this feature to Contact Details. To change the call background for a contact, go to the details page, select the three dots (More options), and select “Edit call background.” Sharing photos via Samsung Messages is also getting easier thanks to a new dual-tab layout for conversations and contacts.
Along with these new features, the One UI 5.1.1 update for the Galaxy A51 also brings the August 2023 security patch. It isn’t the latest security release from Samsung, as the October patch is already available, but it’s still a relatively recent one. If you’re using this phone, the new update should reach you in the coming days. Samsung should soon expand the rollout globally. The 5G version of the device has already received One UI 5.1.1.
This phone won’t get Android 14 or One UI 6.0
Samsung launched the Galaxy A51 in December 2019, a few months before its 5G version. It was one of the first Samsung phones to arrive with Android 10 onboard. The phone was also added to the company’s then-new update policy of three major Android OS upgrades for select models.
It expectedly went on to receive Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. Earlier this year, Samsung pushed the One UI 5.1 update to the Galaxy A51. It’s now rolling out One UI 5.1.1.
Unfortunately, this is the last major feature update for the phone. It will not get Android 14 or One UI 6.0. The device may pick up at least one more security update, though. You can check for new updates from the Settings app.
