This model is one of the things that the company talked about during Google I/O earlier this year. It’s called Gemini 1.5 Flash, and it’s coming to improve the experience for free users. Also, the company released some more updates to Gemini.
If you’re a free ChatGPT user, then you’ll be happy to know that OpenAI recently launched GPT-4o mini. This is the latest model from the company, but it’s not the most powerful. Rather, it’s meant to be an upgrade to the model that free users were using which is GPT-3.5 Turbo. GPT-4o mini is a pretty big improvement in just about every area. It’s already available for free users.
Google finally releases Gemini 1.5 Flash to the masses
It’s rather convenient that both of these companies are releasing comparable models to the public around the same time. In any case, Gemini 1.5 Flash is designed to be a lightweight model that can still deliver more power and capabilities for free users.
One area where Gemini 1.5 Flash is better is in the context window. Free users can enjoy a context window that’s 4x larger than before. Gemini 1.5 Flash has a 32,000-token context window. That’s not massive compared to the 1,000,000-token context window of Gemini 1.5 Pro, but it’s still much better.
Free users will soon be able to enjoy file uploads either through Google Drive or their devices. This means that free users will be able to have Gemini look through their files and create content based on it.
Gemini is making it to more people
A product is only great if tons of people can use it. As part of Google’s announcement, the company stated that it’s making it to more people and places.
Gemini is now available in more than 230 countries around the world and in 40 languages. This also includes being available in more schools around the world.
Google Messages
Gemini for Google Message has been making it to more people and regions since its launch. Well, Google announced that this feature is now making it to the UK, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland. This feature now supports Spanish, French, and Polish.
New features
Rounding out the new stuff, Gemini is now launching some new features that we’ve heard about a while back. Firstly, there’s the new Double-Check feature. This will tap Google Search to check inaccurate or contradicting statements. This will help reduce hallucinations.
Lastly, Google will also launch the Related Content feature. This will surface links to different websites within the results with related information.
