Foldable smartphone shipments are expected to rise by more than 100% this year. This information comes from Ross Young, a well-known display analyst.

This information is based on the upcoming report by the Display Supply Chain. That report is coming soon, and Ross Young is delivering some interesting tidbits ahead of time.

Foldable smartphone shipments are expected to rise by over 100% in 2022

He also added that Samsung is targeting to deliver over 14 million phones, while Samsung Display is expected to ship around 19 million panels for foldable smartphones.

This is actually the second piece of information from that report that Ross Young shared. Earlier today, we reported on Samsung’s dominance in the foldable smartphone market. The company apparently shipped 88-percent of overall foldable smartphones last year. By doing that, it increased its lead.

Many Chinese OEMs who released their foldable smartphones do not offer them in global markets. That way, they’re allowing Samsung to further increase its dominance, basically.

Let’s hope that trend will change in 2022. Many smartphone OEMs are planning to offer their foldable smartphones this year, so let’s hope they opt to offer them in more markets.

Xiaomi, OPPO, and HONOR, for example, released their foldables only in China, for now. All three companies released foldable devices that are quite popular in their homelands. So, doing the same in the global markets may not be a bad idea.

Both Vivo & Google plan to deliver their first foldable smartphones this year

Vivo is expected to announce its very first foldable smartphone this year. Google is actually expected to do the same. Google’s will be available in the US, and most likely in Europe as well. So, that’s at least some sort of progress.

Xiaomi is expected to release its second-gen foldable this year, and the same goes for OPPO. Motorola may join the party, and Huawei is also expected to offer a new foldable smartphone this year, in addition to the Huawei P50 Pocket which was recently launched in global markets.
