Most smart TVs come with Android TV or Google TV as their default app launcher. Although it shows most apps installed on the TV interface which are installed via the Play Store, there is always a problem with side-loaded apps.
Android TV or Google TV only shows official apps on its interface that are built for Android TVs. However, there are several apps, aren’t available on the Google Play Store, that enhance the features of the Android TV, but most of them aren’t visible on the interface.
To overcome this limitation, and to allow users to launch sideloaded apps from the Android TV’s interface, several third-party launchers for Android TV are available. Joining this list is the FLauncher Android TV launcher.
FLauncher is based on the Flutter framework, which is Google’s latest framework. The main advantage of using the Flutter framework is that it allows for creating cross-platform applications.
The main intention of launching the FLauncher Android TV interface app is to allow the user to open and manage sideloaded apps on their Android TV. It can be used as the default launcher on your TV and replace Android TV/Google TV.
FLauncher supports customizable categories, wallpapers, rows, and more
Talking about the features of FLauncher, it provides plenty of customization options. To be specific, you can change the categories of apps/games, select your favorite background, customize rows, change the grid display options, and more.
Moreover, as noted by XDA Developers, there is a shortcut for opening Settings and App info of each installed apps as well.
According to Étienne Fesser, the project’s main developer, the FLauncher is in its early stages. So, we can expect a bunch of new features coming our way, but currently, you could come across certain bugs and bumps while using it.
Although the app is in its early stages, all must-have features on a launcher are already present. Keeping aside the stability factor, you will enjoy this new Android TV launcher experience.
Google launched its new UI, the Google TV interface over the already existing Android TV UI. Google TV was bundled with new features and improvements over Android TV.
There are a few inclusions in Google TV UI, such as auto-playing video ads, that have irked users. So, if you are one of such users, then you can opt for Flauncher, as it comes with no ads.
To learn more about FLauncher, you can check out the project’s GitLab repository. Besides, if you are interested in installing the launcher on your Android TV, then download the app from Google Play Store.
