As many of you know, Huawei announced the very first, and until now only a tri-fold smartphone. Based on a new report, Samsung could announce its first tri-fold handset in 2025, but its availability will be quite limited.

Samsung’s first tri-fold handset could launch this year, but its availability will be limited

Based on the report from Korea, Samsung plans to manufacture less than 300,000 units of its first tri-fold handset. Why? Because of the incredible challenges and complexities of its production process.

Samsung wants to focus on durability and build quality, based on what it said in the report. The company’s first tri-fold handset will use a so-called ‘G Type’ form factor, not the S-shaped design of the Huawei Mate XT.

What does that mean? Well, this handset could be a completely in-folding device, unlike the Huawei Mate XT. That way it won’t be folding both inward and outward. This could be an even better idea as the display will be protected when the device is folded.

A high price tag is also expected

You can expect a quite high price tag for the device. Considering that only 300,000 units (or less) will be manufactured, chances are this phone won’t be available globally. It could be limited to just Korea, or Korea and China, much like the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

Another detail that was mentioned is the absence of under-display camera tech. That probably means this phone will have a display camera hole. It remains to be seen, but each has its advantages.

We don’t really have much other information about the device at this point. A 12.4-inch main display was mentioned at one time, but do take that information with a grain of salt. As a reminder, the Huawei Mate XT has a 10.2-inch display when fully extended.

We’re not sure when exactly this phone will arrive, but it’s expected to drop at some point in 2025.
