OnePlus is expected to announce its first foldable smartphone this year, and that device may be larger than you think. A well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, shared some new information via Weibo.

The very first OnePlus foldable smartphone may be larger than you think

Many people expected the first OnePlus foldable to follow in OPPO’s footsteps, but that may not happen. OnePlus allegedly plans to announce a book-style foldable first, but it will be considerably larger than the OPPO Find N2.

The tipster claims that it will have a large 2K display, which suggests a Galaxy Z Fold 4-sized device. The tipster also said that the first OnePlus foldable smartphone will launch in Q3 this year. So, don’t expect it before July, at the earliest.

The OPPO Find N2 has a 7.1-inch fullHD+ (1792 x 1920) main display, and a 5.54-inch fullHD+ (2120 x 1080) cover display. Its main display is technically large, but not exactly that large for a book-style foldable (based on the competition). It’s also closer to a fullHD+ resolution than to a 2K display.

Considering that the tipster didn’t mention the OPPO Find N2 at all, anything is possible. It’s possible that OnePlus will simply up the resolution of the display, and reveal a Find N2 rebrand after all. Chances are that won’t happen, though.

OnePlus is also expected to introduce a clamshell foldable this year

OnePlus is also expected to announce a clamshell foldable smartphone at some point. We presume that both devices will launch this year, but the tipster did not mention the clamshell foldable model.

OnePlus recently trademarked both OnePlus V Fold and OnePlus V Flip names. Those two names suggest two different foldable smartphone lineups are coming, as mentioned earlier. Both OPPO and Vivo, OnePlus’ sister companies, already launched their foldable smartphones. OPPO even brought the OPPO Find N2 Flip to global markets. It’s time for OnePlus to show us what it has to offer.
