Samsung allegedly postponed the launch of the Exynos 2200, its next-gen flagship processor for smartphones. This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster.

Samsung postponed the Exynos 2200 launch, but it’s still coming before the Galaxy S22

In his tweet, the tipster says that Samsung originally planned to launch the chip in November. Back then it decided to postpone its launch, though it doesn’t seem like it planned to postpone it this much.

The tipster claims that “many things happened inside Samsung LSI”, and not good things. He did not elaborate on that statement, but it seems like Samsung hit some roadblocks along the way.

The company did tease this chip at the end of last year, in a short trailer. So, we expected it to arrive in early 2022. That’s still a possibility, as it has to launch before the Galaxy S22 arrives. The Galaxy S22 series is tipped to launch on February 8, so the Exynos 2200 is likely right around the corner. Samsung did tip January 11 as the possible release date, though it remains to be seen if that will happen or not.

The Exynos 2200 is expected to match the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

That being said, many people have high hopes for the Exynos 2200, after its predecessor failed to match the offerings from Qualcomm. Samsung had some throttling issues in the past, but hopefully the company can put that behind with this chip.

The Exynos 2200 is actually expected to become the first Exynos processor with an AMD GPU: It remains to be seen how much will this chip benefit from such a GPU.

Samsung, once again, plans to offer two different SoC variants of the Galaxy S22 phones. One variant will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while the other will include the Exynos 2200. Their availability will be market-dependent, of course.

Based on the latest reports, though, the Exynos 2200 still trails behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, at least when it comes to the CPU part. Things could change once the final chip lands, though, we’ll have to wait and see.
