Last week, it was made official. YouTube bought the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket. And it’ll be available as an add-on to YouTube TV, and available in YouTube’s PrimeTime Channels. Marking the first time that NFL Sunday Ticket would be available as a standalone option.

Now the big question has been, how much will NFL Sunday Ticket cost. Now that it is leaving DIRECTV and heading to YouTube, it means that customers don’t need to get satellite TV anymore. Currently, NFL Sunday Ticket costs $294 for the entire season. Now, we’re hearing from Peter King over at NBC Sports, that we should expect NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube to cost “in the neighborhood” of $300 per season. Which isn’t a huge increase over DIRECTV actually.

That does sound pretty pricey. But it is actually cheaper than it would be with DIRECTV. Since you can subscribe to just the NFL Sunday Ticket with YouTube PrimeTime Channels, so you’re only paying for that. Versus paying for satellite TV every month and getting it set up. Not to mention, satellite TV doesn’t do well in bad weather.

Why is NFL Sunday Ticket so pricey?

If you’re not a big NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber, you may be wondering why it costs so much. When the season is really only about 5 months (late August through early February). Well a big reason for this is, the deals the NFL has with CBS and Fox. Currently, CBS and Fox broadcast in-market games for the AFC and NFC conferences, respectively. And due to the contracts, any games being shown out of market, has to have a premium price tag.

On top of that NFL Sunday Ticket gives you every single NFL game, all season long. That is 272 games. So there’s loads of content here for that price.

That doesn’t make NFL Sunday Ticket super popular, but for the big NFL fans, it’s worth the price.
