The new horror thriller film Where’s Rose is scheduled to be released in theaters later this month, and we can exclusively debut the trailer ahead of its theatrical premiere. Following a missing child who’s not quite the same once she returns home, the film will hit the big screen on July 29, 2022, followed by a VOD release on Aug. 30. You can check out the brand-new trailer below.
Where’s Rose stars Ty Simpkins (Jurassic World, Avengers: Endgame), Annaliese Judge (Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias), Cara AnnMarie (The Sons of Summer w/ Scott Patterson), and Nick Basta (Harriet w/ Leslie Odom Jr.). It is written and directed by John Mathis (Midnight Runner). Below you’ll find the official synopsis.
Just days before he leaves for college, Eric’s (Simpkins) little sister, Rose, goes missing. When Rose is found, something about her has changed. Eric must convince his family that something evil lives within the little girl before he goes away to school.
Simpkins, who also served as a producer, comes into this film with horror genre experience. He previously appeared in Insidious and its sequel, Insidious: Chapter 2 as Dalton Lambert. The actor says that this experience helped prepare him for starring in Where’s Rose.
“At this point in my life I know the horror genre pretty well, and this being a horror movie made it easier navigating everything and understanding how John, our director, wants the jumpscares to look and how he wants my character to react because I’ve done it before,” Simpkins said, via Wildcat Tribune. “So [Insidious] really helped understanding the horror genre more and helping me prepare for the character more in the sense of like, okay I know when to act scared and how to act scared and I know how John wants this to look based on my side of things.”
Where’s Rose Tackles the Topic of Toxic Masculinity
“I was drawn to tackling the issue of false masculinity in a horror film,” Mathis said about making Where’s Rose, via KingsCrowd. “I was fascinated with and really wanted to play with perspectives. I love the idea that the real monster is the boy next door. I feel that genre films can be a great way to speak on important issues while also telling a thrilling story that will excite and entertain a large audience.”
Producer Justin Boswick added, “After reading the script, I was immediately drawn to the writing and how impactful this story would be. I’ve always wanted to make a film about the dangers of toxic masculinity but in a way that was new and exciting and could bring a new audience to the table. With the elements of fantasy and horror, I knew this was a film I had to produce as soon I read it.”
“Our main demographic for the film is around the 13-30 crowd,” Boswick said. “It’s a horror movie, which tends to play well within that age range and as we’re targeting the big streaming platforms we want to make something perfect for them. Our hope is that it’s a film this age range will see and recommend to an older audience for repeat viewings.”
Where’s Rose will be released in movie theaters on July 29 followed by a VOD release on Aug. 30, 2022.
