Netflix has confirmed via X that its Italian medical drama series Everything Calls for Salvation (Tutto chiede salvezza) will be back for a second season this September following its official renewal in April last year.
Based on the novel by Daniele Mencarelli, Everything Calls for Salvation first made its Netflix debut globally in October 2022. It follows a young man who wakes up to find himself having been committed to a psychiatric ward.
The series was a prime example of a hit in its home country, even if it didn’t transcend outside of its Italian borders and hit elsewhere. According to FlixPatrol numbers, the series featured in the TV top 10s in Italy for 48 days before dropping out. It only appeared in a handful of other regions for a few days before dropping out.
What can we expect from season 2? Netflix has provided the following synopsis for the forthcoming second season that’s due to drop on Netflix globally on September 26th, 2024:
“Two years have passed since we left Daniele and the ship of madmen.
Many things have changed: Daniele and Nina have become the parents of little Maria and shortly after her birth they separated. We find them fighting for custody of the little girl with the support of their respective, very different families.
Daniele, after the intense experience he had during the CHT week, has chosen to become a nurse and, thanks to the intervention of Dr. Cimaroli, he is about to enter as an intern in the hospital where he was admitted.
He has five weeks to demonstrate to the judge that this can become a stable job, establishing himself as a reliable parent. In this new role, Daniele gets to know the new patients in the dormitory, who force him to reflect on his excessive empathy towards the pain of others, and who risk derailing him again.”
Sadly, season 2 looks like it will have fewer episodes than the seven that arrived with season 1, with Netflix indicating that it will consist of only five episodes.
