Sling TV is the latest one to raise its prices. Today, the company announced that it is raising its prices by $5 per month. So Sling Orange and Sling Blue will move to $40 per month (up from $35), while the combined package, Sling Orange + Blue will cost $55 (up from $50).
The company says that the pricing will go into effect immediately for new subscribers. While current subscribers will see the price increase on their first bill after December 3, 2022.
To help soften the blow of this price increase, Sling TV says they will be adding more features to the platform. Which is going to include user profiles and an auto-binge-watching capability.
Sling’s add-ons are not getting a price increase
It’s not all bad news today, from Sling TV. As they have announced that their Extra packs are not getting a price increase. They will remain the same. That’s great news, considering the last time Sling TV raised prices, the Extra packs went up $1 to $2 depending on the add-on.
This is the first time that Sling TV has increased its prices since January 2021. It also comes just a month after Sling TV settled its dispute with Disney. Which kept channels like ESPN, Freeform and the Disney channel on its service. While we can’t say for sure that Disney is the reason for the price increase, it does sound likely.
Sling TV said in a statement why these prices are going up, “Sling doesn’t own the networks customers watch — it pays programmers for channels, and the price of programming continues to rise.” Sling and other operators try to keep prices for these channels the same, or get them cheaper. But when they are unable to do so, they have to raise the price.
However, Sling TV is still the best value in streaming right now. With Hulu + Live TV and fuboTV costing $70 to start, and YouTube TV sitting at $65 to start. Even at $40 per month, Sling TV is really impressive.
