The iPhone 15 series models are barely six months old and the rumor mill has already started revealing details of the upcoming iPhones. We have already received multiple reports about the iPhone 16 series devices, which are due this September. Now, a new report has spilled some beans regarding the features of the next year’s iPhone 17 series models. According to the Korean publication The Elec, all iPhone variants in 2025 will be flaunting ProMotion Always-On displays.

All four iPhone 17 models in 2025 will get LTPO OLED displays to offer a high refresh rate

As per the report, Apple will be incorporating the LTPO OLED display technology on the entire iPhone 17 series in 2025. There will be four models in the iPhone 17 family. Possibly dubbed the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The LTPO OLED screen panels will enable ProMotion Always-On display support on next year’s iPhone models.

Notably, it will be the first time Apple will offer ProMotion on the standard iPhone models – the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus. This tech will allow the more affordable iPhone variants to provide a buttery smooth screen refresh rate of 120Hz. Thanks to the ProMotion display, the users will be able to experience smoother scrolling and immersive content viewing experience when required. Notably, ProMotion also enables the screen to reduce the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz to extend the battery life.

iPhone 15 Pro Lineup Feature

For the unversed, the current standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models utilize low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) screen panels. The more premium iPhone 15 Pro variants are equipped with more advanced low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels. The LTPS panel-equipped standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models only support a maximum screen refresh rate of 60Hz. While the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro variants provide a massive 120Hz display refresh rate for much smoother operations.

Chinese manufacturer BOE is hoping to supply LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 17 series

Furthermore, The Elect reports that the BOE is hoping to provide Apple with LTPO OLED screen panels for the iPhone 17 series. However, it will only happen if the Chinese supplier will be able to provide Apple’s required production capacity. Along with the capacity, BOE should also maintain Apple’s quality control standards. Apple will likely opt for other display suppliers like LG Display or Samsung if BOE can’t meet the aforementioned requirements.

Looks like the iPhone 17 series standard models will be the much-awaited upgrade over the regular iPhone 15 variants. Unfortunately, this year’s iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models will still reportedly stick to LTPS panels, offering just a 60Hz refresh rate.
