Last year in October, YouTube officially announced the collaborative playlists feature. As the name suggests, the feature allows you to invite others to collaborate on playlists, making it easier to curate personalized playlists. Well, YouTube is now taking things one notch up, as it is now rolling out the voting feature for videos/songs on such playlists.
YouTube is gradually rolling out a voting feature for collaborative playlists
In a post on X, YouTube announced the voting feature for collaborative playlists. The platform even shared a YouTube Shorts video to share how things work. While YouTube says that it is gradually rolling out this feature, we are able to use this feature on one of our Android devices.
Not to forget, the voting option on YouTube/YouTube Music that shows up in the created playlist is different from regular liking/disliking. Think of it as upvoting or downvoting a Reddit post. The upvoting and downvoting icons are placed similarly. You can check the screenshots below. Now, you must be wondering how to vote for a video on a created playlist, right?
You’ll have to create a playlist on YouTube/YouTube Music before anyone starts voting. You’ll also need to make sure that the created playlist isn’t private; it should be either unlisted or public. When you’re creating a playlist, you need to make sure to toggle on the Collaborate option. All you need to do is tap/click the share icon and share the playlist with whoever you like.
YouTube says that “anyone invited” can vote for songs from your playlists. Therefore, you should be a little cautious while sharing the link to the playlist. Publicly sharing them will allow strangers to vote on your party playlist, which we’re sure you wouldn’t want. To clear out the confusion, this voting feature works for playlists created on both YouTube and YouTube Music.
You can even learn how things work from a demo playlist
For those curious to learn how the voting works, YouTube has also shared a demo playlist featuring Kendrick Lamar and SZA. All that said, it’s safe to say that YouTube has been testing a lot of features lately. Last month, the platform revealed that it is testing AI overviews in YouTube search, which is similar to what you see when you search for something on Google.
