The new trailer for Elemental gives us another look at the upcoming Disney and Pixar project. This latest look at Elemental teases more of the beloved animation studios’ newest world, which finds personified versions of the elements, fire, water, earth, and air, all living together. Check out the newly released trailer for Elemental below.
Elemental is an all-new, original feature film set in Element City, where fire, water, land and air residents live together. Elemental transports moviegoers to an extraordinary place called Element City, where a host of elements live and work. The trailer showcases each element—air, earth, water and fire—and what sets them apart according to Ember, a quick-witted and fiery woman who’s always stayed close to home in Firetown.
She finally ventures out of her comfort zone to explore this spectacular world born from the imaginations of Pixar’s filmmakers and specifically crafted for the big-screen experience. Element City is inspired by big cities around the globe and embraces theorized contributions from each elemental community—from giant pine-tree-like buildings and waterfall skyscrapers to a tornado-shaped arena called Cyclone Stadium.
Elemental will be led by Leah Lewis (The Half of It, Nancy Drew) as Ember Lumen and Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion, Underwater) as Wade Ripple, and promises to give feelings to the elements following Pixar’s success in giving feelings to the likes of toys, monsters, superheroes, and even feelings themselves.
The rest of the cast includes Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s soon-to-be retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember’s admiring earth neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.
Elemental Will Draw on the Experiences of Director Peter Sohn
The wonderful new Pixar world of Elemental has been brought to life by The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn. Sohn has been a staple at the beloved animation studio for some time, and most recently stole the show in another Pixar outing, last year’s Lightyear, as the voice of SOX, Buzz’s trusted robot-feline companion.
Elemental is a deeply personal project for Sohn, who has revealed how the project will draw from his own experiences growing up as the son of immigrants in New York City during the 1970s. “It has been the struggle of my life for sure understanding my place and what have I assimilated or my identity being a bifurcated identity,” he adds. “It’s always been there, I assume that it’ll be always a part of some amount of storytelling – having that kind of that diversity. Will it be a major thing? I don’t know. But it’s been a part of my life. And I love trying to reflect what the teams that we’ve worked with their lives and our lives into the work that we do.”
The story of Ember and Wade is just one of several exciting new movies coming up from Pixar, with Elio, which follows an 11-year-old boy who finds himself transported across the galaxy and mistaken for the intergalactic ambassador of planet Earth due for release on March 1, 2024. We are also getting a sequel to Inside Out, which is scheduled to be theatrically released on June 14, 2024, as well as a further sequel in the Toy Story franchise, Toy Story 5.
Directed by Sohn, written by Brenda Hsueh, and produced by Denise Ream, Elemental is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 16, 2023.
